I've never painted much, I have difficulty keeping a sketchbook (most sketches are still on receipts, backs of envelopes, whatever scraps of paper I can lay hands to in the moment) and I veer between too many ideas and no ideas at all, but life without creating would be unimaginably dull.
I am fascinated by the pairing of place and memory. Humanity marks both rural and urban landscapes in so many ways, from subtle to brutal, and they keep a memory of those marks, often long past the point when any reason for them has disappeared. Similarly, our memories are regularly snagged by features from those landscapes that form the background to our own experiences. They might become uncoupled over time from the events they originally marked, but they remain landmarks on a very personal map; fragments of stories, told or untold.
I explore ideas mostly through printmaking and book arts.
